Baku: Oil accounted for nearly half of the cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan during the first nine months of 2025, with the total volume of sea cargo reaching 6,962.9 thousand tons, as reported by APA-Economics. This marks a 9.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a significant portion of the transported cargo, 48.1 percent, consisted of oil. The comprehensive report from the State Statistical Committee highlights that seaports in Azerbaijan managed loading and unloading operations totaling 9,861.1 thousand tons. Of this, transit cargo represented 7,852.3 thousand tons, accounting for 79.6% of all cargo handled.

Furthermore, as of October 1, 2025, the volume of cargo remaining in Azerbaijani ports was reported to be 410.2 thousand tons. The report also indicates a decline in passenger transport by sea, with a decrease of 9.8% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 19.3 thousand passengers.
