Baku: The biggest opportunity for Azerbaijani companies lies in the creation of applications, according to Zack Kass, a consultant to OpenAI and former head of the company’s department, who spoke at an event in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kass emphasized the two main directions currently dominating the field of artificial intelligence: the development of frontier models by large model manufacturers and the creation of applications. He posed a critical question regarding the economic efficiency of developing future models like GPT-6 or GPT-7, while highlighting that the application stage often goes unnoticed despite its crucial role in shaping the market.

Kass further pointed out the growing success of applications developed outside Silicon Valley, suggesting that Azerbaijani companies should initially focus on creating applications tailored to the local market, which he described as quite substantial. He also mentioned the importance of infrastructure development, including data operations and ML operations, while advising against investing heavily in large data centers and fundamental research of models.

Expressing his appreciation for his first visit to Azerbaijan, Kass remarked on the beauty of Baku and expressed his desire to return in the future.
