Baku: Over 2,500 homes in Azerbaijan's liberated territories have been equipped with solar panels, marking a significant step forward in the region's green energy initiatives. This development was highlighted during the 13th meeting of the Working Group on the coordination and monitoring of green technologies and energy efficiency implementation, held at Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy. The Ministry shared details of the meeting with APA-Economics, underscoring the country's commitment to sustainable energy solutions. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov outlined the extensive reconstruction and development efforts underway in the liberated territories, which have been declared a "Green Energy Zone" by President Ilham Aliyev. The minister noted that the integration of green technologies and energy efficiency in Karabakh and East Zangazur serves as a pioneering model, with positive outcomes evident in recent monitoring results. The meeting provided updates on various initiat ives, including the inauguration of residential areas, social infrastructure, and energy facilities during presidential visits to the cities of Jabrayil, Zangilan, Khojaly, Fuzuli, Khankendi, Shusha, and Aghdam, as well as the Khojavand and Lachin districts. Notable projects include the Shukurbeyli village, the 330 kV "Shafaq" substation in Soltanli village by Azerenerji OJSC, and several hydropower plants in Lachin. Javid Abdullayev, Director of the State Agency on Renewable Energy Sources (BOEMDA), reported progress on solar power plant construction in Jabrayil and the construction of four hydropower plants in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts with private sector involvement. Additionally, preparations are underway for a wind power plant in Kalbajar. It was confirmed that the electricity demand in these liberated territories is fully met with green energy, with excess power contributing to the national grid. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of green technologies and energy efficiency in Aghdam city, several villages in the Khojavand district, and settlements such as Girmizi Bazar and Hadrut. Reports were presented on the registration of citizens as active consumers in Horovlu village of the Jabrayil district and the Khidirli and Kangarli villages of the Aghdam district. Overall, more than 2,500 private houses, public, and social buildings have been outfitted with solar panels, boasting a combined capacity exceeding 8,000 kW. More than 8,000 LED-based lighting units have been installed, with 43%-approximately 3,500 units-powered by hybrid solar systems. The meeting also covered the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, building insulation, and heating systems in residential complexes, and concluded with an agreement to advance the proposed initiatives.
