Parviz Shahbazov: Energy Security Has Now Become a Matter of National Security

Istanbul: Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov spoke about energy connectivity and future projects in the region and across Eurasia during his speech at the 2nd Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2026), APA's Trkiye bureau reports. The minister noted that energy security has now become a matter of national security.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shahbazov stated that in the 21st century, energy power is measured not only by production but also by supply security, connectivity, and reliable partnership. He emphasized that these factors have gained significance amid energy crises in the Middle East and Europe.

The minister highlighted that the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Trkiye-Bulgaria electricity interconnectors and other regional electricity links will be a key part of future energy integration. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing about transporting Azerbaijan's energy resources from the Caspian region to Trkiye and further to Europe through Armenia via the Zangezur corridor.

Shahbazov described the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor natural gas pipeline as among the most reliable and predictable projects. He stated that these projects not only connect Azerbaijan with neighboring countries but also position Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and other partners as key pillars of the Eurasian energy infrastructure.
