Nicosia: Northern Cyprus Prime Minister stel has called for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to become a permanent member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), citing its status as a Turkic state. The statement comes amid initiatives to deepen ties between Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, and other Turkic nations.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, stel expressed optimism that these initiatives would yield positive results and solidify relationships between the nations.

stel emphasized the importance of Northern Cyprus transitioning from observer status to full membership in the OTS to bolster trade, economic, social, sports, and youth exchanges. He underscored the necessity of facilitating travel and cultural exchange among the Turkic states, which he considers crucial for regional integration and mutual understanding.

Discussing the ongoing Cyprus issue, stel reiterated the stance of Northern Cyprus on a two-state solution, arguing that without equality and sovereignty on such a basis, resolving the conflict is unlikely. He pointed out the historical struggle for autonomy since the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and expressed skepticism about changing attitudes from the Greek Cypriot side.

Regarding economic collaboration, stel outlined Northern Cyprus's strategic vision for participating in the New Silk Road project, which is a key agenda item for the OTS. He underscored the strategic importance of Northern Cyprus's location in the Mediterranean, which could enhance the project's development and serve as a pivotal point for the region.

stel also addressed regional security and stability, highlighting the strategic trade routes and logistical capabilities of Northern Cyprus, which could be leveraged to strengthen ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
