Baku: Anglo Asian Mining Plc. (AAM), a British company involved in gold, silver, and copper mining in Azerbaijan, has announced the commencement of preparatory work for the start of production at the Demirli deposit in Karabakh. The Demirli project marks the second new mine commissioned by the company this year, aligning with its strategy to become a medium-sized copper producer.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the company’s forecast indicates that the Demirli mine is set to produce 4,000 tons of copper concentrate in 2025. Starting in 2026, the production is expected to increase to 15,000 tons annually. Demirli is described as a large open-pit mine, where ore is transported to a flotation plant. An environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the project has been completed, and technical designs for a new tailings facility have been prepared.

The mining and processing sector has seen the hiring of up to 150 new employees, with an additional 50 personnel transferred from other mining operations. Anglo Asian Mining also has plans to explore new copper reserves in the vicinity of Demirli. The company’s CEO, Rza Vezirov, noted the significance of commencing production at Demirli in a short timeframe, emphasizing its contribution to the economic revival of the Karabakh region.

Anglo Asian Mining’s overarching goal is to achieve an annual production of 50-55 thousand tons of copper by 2030. In pursuit of this objective, the company also launched operations at the Gilar mine in May 2025.
