Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting with President of the European Council Antonio Costa during an official luncheon.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the discussions highlighted the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union across several fields. Key topics included security, energy, and transport, with both parties expressing satisfaction with advancements in these areas.
The meeting emphasized Azerbaijan's role in Europe's energy security, particularly through its gas exports to ten European countries. The discussion underscored the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council meetings that had previously taken place in Azerbaijan.
Transport and logistics were major points of conversation, with a focus on Azerbaijan's regional significance. The TRIPP's role in the Middle Corridor was highlighted, and the European Union's involvement in the restoration and reconstruction of the Nakhchivan railway line was discussed.
The dialogue also explored the potential for expanding trade relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union through preferential tariff principles. Progress within the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia was acknowledged, with the European Union expressing readiness to aid in the peace process.
Furthermore, the meeting covered prospects for cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the establishment of data centers. Concluding the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev and President Antonio Costa released a joint press statement.
