Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has addressed a letter to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on the 30th anniversary of the recognition of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the letter highlights the historic significance of the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution on December 12, 1995, which recognized Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality with unanimous support from 185 countries. This event is regarded as a significant milestone in Turkmenistan’s history. Over the years, Turkmenistan has pursued a policy of neutrality, achieving progress and development across various sectors.

The letter emphasizes that Turkmenistan’s neutrality is rooted in its historical heritage and the traditions of its peace-loving people, focusing on dialogue and mutual respect. The policy is noted for its role in enhancing peace and security at both regional and global levels. Azerbaijan has shown consistent support for Turkmenistan’s neutrality, co-authoring relevant UN resolutions in 1995 and 2015.

President Aliyev expressed confidence in the continuation of joint efforts to preserve and strengthen the traditions of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan interstate relations. He emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the two nations, reflecting the will of their fraternal peoples.
