Munich: The corridor running from Azerbaijan to Armenia and further to European destinations presents significant potential for cargo transportation, as emphasized by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. Speaking during a panel discussion titled 'Open Corridor Policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian Cooperation' at the Munich Security Conference, President Aliyev highlighted the strategic importance of this route once peace is achieved in the region.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev detailed the investments already underway, focusing on regional connectivity projects that include not only railways but also fiber optics. He discussed ongoing collaborations with Central Asian partners to lay a fiber optic cable along the Caspian Sea's bottom, a project expected to be completed within this year. The President expressed optimism about new opportunities emerging post-peace with Armenia, underscoring the corridor's potential in boosting cargo volumes. Azerbaijan is actively investing in its railway infrastructure to enhance this connectivity.

President Aliyev further elaborated that the total railway length planned for construction and rehabilitation is 600 kilometers. Upon completion, there will be two expansions of the Middle Corridor passing through Azerbaijan, which will benefit not only the West and the East but also the countries in the South Caucasus. The President's comments underscore Azerbaijan's commitment to regional development and the strategic importance of the corridor in fostering international trade.
