Aghdam: On May 10, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with residents who have been resettled in Kangarli village of the Aghdam district and presented them with the keys to their new homes.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev greeted the villagers and expressed his congratulations, emphasizing the historic significance of life returning to Kangarli. He acknowledged the difficult conditions the residents endured for many years, living in dilapidated accommodations, and noted the transformation as a demonstration of Azerbaijani sovereignty over the land. The President highlighted the devastation left by the former occupiers, stating that all buildings in Aghdam district were destroyed with the intent of permanent occupation. However, he affirmed the Azerbaijani people’s resilience and determination to reclaim and rebuild their lands.

The newly built Kangarli village marks the first phase of restoration efforts, with 292 houses ready for residents. President Aliyev assured that more houses would be constructed in the second phase, and the village is equipped with essential infrastructure including electricity, gas, water, sewage systems, and facilities such as a school, kindergarten, medical center, and market complex. He also mentioned plans for land allocation for agriculture, with demining completed on some plots. This restoration effort is seen as a celebration of justice and the revival of Azerbaijan’s presence in the region.

The President also inaugurated the Aghdam railway station complex and announced the forthcoming opening of the Aghdam Mugham Center, underscoring the cultural significance of the region. He recalled his promise to the displaced people that their living conditions would be improved after liberation, and noted that the rapid restoration work aims to bring all former displaced persons back to their lands.

Kangarli village is the 14th settlement to be restored, and the second in Aghdam district, following Sarijali. President Aliyev expressed optimism about the future of the region, encouraging residents to rebuild Karabakh together.

Following his remarks, President Aliyev participated in a ceremony to present the keys to the residents and commemorative photos were taken to mark the occasion.
