Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. The meeting took place following President Aliyev's state visit to Georgia in April, which he recalled as a positive step in enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. The discussions also included the significance of various documents to be signed during the meeting, aimed at expanding cooperation.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Prime Minister Kobakhidze expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for the reception and acknowledged the impactful state visit by the Azerbaijani leader to Georgia. He emphasized the strategic roles of Azerbaijan and Georgia in connectivity for many countries and highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in this area.
Prime Minister Kobakhidze congratulated President Aliyev on hosting the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum in Baku, noting that it serves as a platform for discussing the global urban agenda. President Aliyev expressed his appreciation for the congratulations.
Both leaders commended the dynamic development of bilateral relations, grounded in friendship and good-neighborliness, and noted the broad scope of the bilateral agenda. They saw potential for further expansion in political, trade, economic, energy, transport, logistics, and investment sectors. The importance of reciprocal visits at various levels was also highlighted as a means of strengthening ties.
During the meeting, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Kobakhidze witnessed the signing of several key agreements. These included the Agreement on the Supply of Natural Gas to Georgia, the Agreement on the Supply of Electricity to Georgia and its transit through the country's territory, and the Protocol of the 41st meeting of the Coordination Council related to the "Baku-Tbilisi-Kars" railway project.
