Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the two leaders emphasized the historic significance of the Washington Peace Summit held on August 8, 2025. During that summit, a Joint Declaration was signed by President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, along with the initialing of the agreed text of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The meeting in Bishkek highlighted the export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia and the transit of grain and other goods through Azerbaijan to Armenia, marking these developments as important dividends of peace. The leaders also acknowledged the significance of ongoing contacts between business communities and explored opportunities for expanding economic, trade, and energy cooperation.

The discussions included the critical role of state commissions on the delimitation of the state border, with both sides underscoring the importance of continuing their work as per the agreements reached. Additionally, practical steps related to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), a notable outcome of the Washington Peace Summit, were discussed, focusing on connectivity projects along the TRIPP.

Confidence-building measures involving parliamentarians and civil society representatives were positively assessed for their role in enhancing mutual trust and supporting the peace agenda. Both President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to continue direct bilateral engagement to consolidate lasting peace, advance normalization of interstate relations, and strengthen connectivity.
