President Ilham Aliyev and Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty Chairman Visit Historical Museum in Shusha

Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a visit to the House-Museum of Bulbul in Shusha.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the visit was part of a broader initiative to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. Member of the Milli Majlis Polad Bulbuloghlu provided information to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov regarding the significance of the museum. The renowned musician Bulbul, whose early years were spent in this house, is a celebrated figure in Azerbaijani culture. The house was designated as a museum by the Executive Committee of the Shusha City People’s Deputies Soviet in 1982 based on a directive from National Leader Heydar Aliyev. It underwent renovations in the early 1980s to establish a museum exhibition, alongside the construction of an administrative building.

The house-museum’s operations were halted in 1992 due to the First Karabakh War and the subsequent Armenian vandalism. Restoration efforts commenced following the liberation of Shusha, leading to the reopening of the museum in August 2021. The museum now features a newly erected bust of Bulbul, with the original, damaged bust preserved as evidence of past acts of vandalism.
