Washington: The inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace was held in the capital of the United States, with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in attendance. President Aliyev was present at the event following an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting commenced with a family photo, followed by a speech from President Trump. During his remarks, Trump highlighted his role in settling eight wars during his presidency, including achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He expressed gratitude to the leaders of both countries for establishing peace in the region, emphasizing the economic and human costs of war compared to peace.
President Trump praised President Aliyev for his role in the peace process, recalling a meeting in the Oval Office where both leaders overcame longstanding hostilities. Trump described the initial discomfort between the leaders, who had been adversaries for decades, and detailed how they eventually reached a resolution. The meeting concluded with the signing of a resolution focusing on financial integrity and transparency principles.
Representatives from other participating countries also delivered speeches, emphasizing the significance of the peace agreement and the collaborative efforts to maintain regional stability.
