Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, along with First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and family members, participated in the opening ceremony of Islam Safarli Street, which spans the Sabail and Yasamal districts of Baku, following its recent reconstruction. The inauguration took place on May 1, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Eldar Azizov, the Head of the Baku City Executive Authority, provided a briefing to the president and the First Lady regarding the completed works. The renovation project covered the area starting from Azerbaijan Avenue, including a section of Nigar Rafibayli Street, and extended along Islam Safarli Street up to Mirzaagha Aliyev Street, ensuring seamless pedestrian access to Central Park.
The project also involved landscaping on eight intersecting streets with Islam Safarli Street, as well as sections leading to Tabriz Khalilbeyli and Mirza Ibrahimov streets. The total length of the renovated streets is 1,350 meters. Infrastructure improvements included the renewal of water and sewage lines and the replacement of gas lines with an underground system. Additionally, reconstruction and restoration works were conducted on various buildings along these streets. Facilities such as seating areas were installed for the recreation of residents and visitors, complemented by extensive landscaping efforts.
The renovation project enhances pedestrian connectivity from Fountains Square to Winter Park and highlights architectural monuments of local significance from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, boosting the area's appeal for residents and tourists alike. The conversion of vehicle roads to pedestrian pathways is anticipated to benefit local shops, cafes, and restaurants, creating new opportunities for small businesses.
Baku's transformation into a modern city continues with ongoing projects aimed at updating its social infrastructure and enhancing comfort for both residents and visitors. The implementation of micromobility solutions and the creation of pedestrian zones align with modern urban planning trends, contributing to sustainable development and establishing Baku as a pedestrian-friendly metropolis.
