Shusha: On September 15, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, Director-General of ICESCO, in Shusha, APA reports. During the conversation, the ICESCO Director-General’s visits to Azerbaijan, including Shusha, and his meetings with the head of state were fondly recalled. Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik noted that the beauty of Shusha had left a deep impression on him.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the extensive landscaping and reconstruction projects implemented in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories were highly praised during the meeting. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to the ICESCO Director-General for his support in promoting Azerbaijan’s culture. He highlighted the organization’s early visits to Karabakh and the solidarity shown by raising awareness about the destruction in these territories.
President Aliyev further acknowledged the decision to declare Shusha the Capital of Islamic Culture by ICESCO, which was a source of joy for Azerbaijanis. He referenced the memorable event held on the Jidir Duzu plain, which symbolized unity and pride. In recognition of these efforts, President Aliyev announced the awarding of the ‘Dostlug’ (Friendship) Order to Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, the highest state honor of Azerbaijan.
Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik expressed his gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that the honor reflects the collective efforts of those working alongside him to advance knowledge, preserve culture, and promote peace. He noted that the award would be cherished not only by him but also by his family, colleagues, and country.
