Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has extended his congratulations to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei on his recent appointment as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the President's message also offered condolences for the passing of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the father of the newly appointed leader.

In his message, President Aliyev highlighted the historical ties between Azerbaijan and Iran, emphasizing the spirit of good-neighborliness and friendship that has characterized relations between the two nations. He expressed hope for continued efforts to enhance interstate relations grounded in mutual respect and trust, aligned with the interests of both peoples.

President Aliyev concluded his message by reiterating his congratulations on Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei's appointment and extended his wishes for peace and security to the people of Iran.
