Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan has the potential to become a strategic renewable energy partner for the European Commission. This statement was made during a press briefing with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted renewable energy as a new area of collaboration with the European Commission. He elaborated on Azerbaijan's potential in solar, wind, and hydropower, as well as the country's current and future electricity transmission infrastructure. President Aliyev expressed confidence that Azerbaijan could become a strategic partner in renewable energy.
President Aliyev informed President von der Leyen that existing agreements with both foreign and local companies are expected to enable the generation of 8 gigawatts of solar and wind energy within the next five to six years. This development is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the energy partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Commission.
