President Ilham Aliyev Highlights Azerbaijan’s Leading Role in Gas Supply

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev recently emphasized Azerbaijan's prominent role in the global energy sector, highlighting that the country leads in the number of countries receiving gas through pipelines. This statement was made during an interview with Euronews, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev elaborated on the strategic partnerships Azerbaijan has cultivated over the years, particularly with Europe. The collaboration gained significant momentum post-2020 with the commissioning of the Southern Gas Corridor. This corridor currently supplies natural gas to 16 countries, including ten members of the European Union. Overall, 12 European nations are beneficiaries of Azerbaijani gas, and the list is expanding as new requests for cooperation continue to emerge.

President Aliyev also noted Azerbaijan's proactive steps in developing its pipeline infrastructure and upstream capabilities, leading to increased production levels. He mentioned an anticipated announcement about the commencement of gas production from a new field. The partnership with Europe is described as mutually beneficial, providing Azerbaijan with access to a premium market while offering Europe an alternative energy source. This collaboration with the European Commission is viewed as highly productive.
