President Ilham Aliyev Highlights Azerbaijan’s Strategic Role as Connectivity Hub

Baku: Azerbaijan continues to pursue inclusive and sustainable development. Over the past two decades, our economy has grown nearly fourfold, while poverty and unemployment have been reduced to around 5 percent. Significant investments in social protection and infrastructure have improved the well-being of our population, which now exceeds 10 million," said President Ilham Aliyev in his address to the participants of the Eighty-second session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals by integrating the 2030 Agenda into national development strategies. Efforts in poverty reduction, education, healthcare, and the presentation of Voluntary National Reviews demonstrate the country's commitment to leaving no one behind.

Azerbaijan's role as a key connectivity hub is being strengthened, with the Middle Corridor gaining importance in the current geopolitical environment. The Zangezur Corridor is expected to enhance regional connectivity, linking Asia and Europe, and contributing to transport, energy, and digital networks aligned with ESCAP's priorities.

Azerbaijan is recognized as a reliable energy security provider, ensuring stable and diversified energy supplies across regions. The end of the conflict has opened new avenues for Azerbaijan's international engagement, evidenced by its leadership in various regional and international organizations.

President Aliyev also announced Azerbaijan's upcoming hosting of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum next month. He extended an invitation to global participants, emphasizing Azerbaijan's commitment to sustainable urban development and reconstruction.
