Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have officially been allies for about a year. This announcement came during a joint press statement with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, marking a significant day in the historical relationship between the two nations.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the atmosphere of brotherhood and mutual understanding that characterized the state visit of President Mirziyoyev. During the visit, both leaders engaged in discussions about a wide array of issues concerning bilateral cooperation. The strategic and allied nature of their relationship was reaffirmed during both their private meeting and the session of the Interstate Council.

The alliance was formalized last year in Tashkent with the signing of the Treaty on Allied Relations, which President Aliyev described as the highest and most significant document in relations between any countries. He highlighted the active cooperation on the international stage, mutual support, and the concrete plans and projects being implemented across many sectors as evidence of this alliance.
