Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan to express his condolences on the passing of His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze welcomed the head of state during his visit.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev signed the book of condolences and held a conversation with the ambassador. The president noted that His Holiness Ilia II dedicated his life and activities to causes that promoted interreligious dialogue. He emphasized that the Catholicos-Patriarch's memory will always be respected in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted the significant role of His Holiness Ilia II in fostering traditional friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. Ambassador Zurab Pataradze expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for visiting the embassy to offer his condolences.
