President Ilham Aliyev Receives Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna

Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev recently hosted Margus Tsahkna, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, marking a significant diplomatic engagement. The meeting was set against the backdrop of recent developments in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Foreign Minister Tsahkna extended his congratulations to President Aliyev on the progress achieved in Washington, particularly in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President Aliyev expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment and highlighted the pivotal role played by U.S. President Donald Trump in facilitating these historic agreements. He also emphasized the importance of establishing a transport link between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan region as part of the agreements.

The Estonian Foreign Minister acknowledged Azerbaijan’s decision to allow the transit of grain imported by Armenia from Kazakhstan through Azerbaijani territory as a critical move towards normalizing relations between the two nations. He further mentioned that his visit included a business delegation, and a business forum was conducted in Baku, which he hoped would enhance economic and trade relations between Estonia and Azerbaijan.

Additionally, Tsahkna expressed Estonia’s support for Azerbaijan’s engagement with the European Union and NATO, noting the positive trajectory of Azerbaijan-EU relations. President Aliyev recounted his meetings with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, indicating that new opportunities for cooperation in energy and transport connectivity were emerging.

The Estonian Foreign Minister also congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting COP29, highlighting the significant contributions made to advancing the international climate agenda. The discussions concluded with an exchange of views on various mutual interests, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two countries.
