President Ilham Aliyev has described the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as a historic event. For the first time in the Muslim world a democratic republic was established. We are deservedly proud that this republic was founded by Azerbaijani people, said the President at an official reception marking the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
This once more proves that the Azerbaijani nation is a great nation, Azerbaijani people are a freedom loving and progressive nation.
The President noted that the Azerbaijani state has great respect for the memory of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Under my order, a monument to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was erected in the center of Baku a few years ago. The names of the founding fathers of the Democratic Republic were immortalized. This year was proclaimed as a year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in the country. We held and continue to hold large events to celebrate this anniversary both in our country and in many foreign countries, and these events will continue to be held until the end of the year.
We are deservedly very proud of this historic event, President Ilham Aliyev added.
