President Ilham Aliyev: Today, Europe Needs More Azerbaijani Gas

Baku: “Today, Europe needs more Azerbaijani gas,” stated President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a gathering with participants of the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum, reports APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan is prepared to increase its gas supply to Europe. In 2021, the gas export volume was 8 billion cubic meters, which has since increased to 13 billion cubic meters. This represents half of Azerbaijan’s total production and exports. The President highlighted the necessity for a pragmatic approach with European institutions to facilitate additional volumes.

He further noted that the Southern Gas Corridor is currently operating at full capacity. To explore new markets, Azerbaijan is utilizing different interconnectors, although the primary pipeline is already fully operational. President Aliyev indicated that expanding the capacity requires funding and borrowed resources. He expressed optimism that European institutions would reassess their policies to enable the attraction of necessary funds, suggesting that what seems like a completed plan today could grow under the right circumstances.
