TBILISI: Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has publicly declared the current government illegitimate, refusing to recognize the results of the recent parliamentary elections. The announcement has sparked calls for public demonstrations against the electoral outcome.

According to Trend News Agency, President Zurabishvili has urged residents to gather in protest at Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. The protest, scheduled for Monday evening, aims to express collective dissent against the election results, which Zurabishvili contests. “I want to invite you all to Rustaveli Avenue tomorrow evening at seven o’clock so that we can together announce to the world and to ourselves that we do not recognize the election,” Zurabishvili stated.

The Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party is currently leading the elections with 53.93% of the votes, amounting to 1,118,796 votes. The Central Election Commission has processed results from 3,109 out of 3,111 polling stations, representing 99.936% of all stations.

Other pol
itical entities reported varying levels of support. The coalition “For Change,” comprising Gvaramia, Melia, “Girchi – More Freedom,” and “Droa!,” secured 11.03% of the votes, equating to 228,821 votes. The “Unity – National Movement” coalition received 10.161% (210,787 votes), while the Strong Georgia coalition, including Lelo, For the People, and Freedom Square, garnered 8.814% (182,839 votes). The Gakharia for Georgia Party obtained 7.771% of the votes, totaling 161,215 votes.
