TASHKENT: A significant number of Uzbek citizens, totaling 132,667, have participated in early voting abroad as part of the upcoming elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils. The information was disclosed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bahromjon Aloev, during a recent briefing.

According to Trend News Agency, 57 polling stations were established across 40 embassies and consulates of Uzbekistan worldwide. These measures have been implemented to accommodate the voting needs of Uzbek citizens residing outside the country. The elections in Uzbekistan are scheduled to commence on October 27, with polling stations operating from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5). Preliminary results are anticipated by October 28.

The electoral process is being closely monitored by more than 800 foreign and international observers. This includes 245 observers from 43 countries and 560 from 13 international organizations, such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperat
ion Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States. Additionally, the election is being overseen by 55,000 observers from political parties and over 10,000 from local self-governance bodies.

Notably, this election marks a historic moment as it is the first time Uzbekistan is employing a mixed electoral system, which combines majoritarian and proportional frameworks. The election features participation from several political entities, including the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party of National Revival, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat.”
