President of UN Habitat Assembly Highlights the Importance of Global Cooperation at WUF13

Baku: President of the United Nations Habitat Assembly from Malaysia, Nga Kor Ming, emphasized the critical role of international cooperation in addressing urban challenges during his speech at the official opening press conference of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kor Ming highlighted the significance of platforms like the World Urban Forum, which facilitate the exchange of practical solutions adaptable to various national and local contexts. He noted that the forum convenes global coalitions, governments, local authorities, international organizations, experts, and partners at a pivotal moment. Urbanization is rapidly reshaping societies, offering economic opportunities, innovation, and cultural exchanges while simultaneously presenting challenges such as housing pressures, climate issues, social inequalities, and increased demand for public services.

Kor Ming pointed out that the forum's theme, 'Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities', underscores the urgency of addressing affordable housing, particularly for vulnerable communities. He stressed that while technology can disseminate information, it cannot replace the trust and wisdom necessary for community building.

Throughout the week, discussions will center on practical strategies to enhance the inclusivity and resilience of cities. Kor Ming expressed hope for meaningful exchanges on housing policies and financing, emphasizing the need for these discussions to leave a lasting impact. The recent Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda showcased strong political commitment ahead of the high-level midterm review in New York this July.

As President of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, Kor Ming believes this process is a pivotal opportunity to bolster international cooperation and sustain political momentum for sustainable urbanization. He urged stakeholders to transition from general declarations to tangible and measurable results.
