Baku: Against the backdrop of developments in the region and the realization of the Zangezur corridor, which will be a significant part of the global Middle Corridor route, efforts must be mobilized to increase efficiency in the Autonomous Republic’s socio-economic development, logistics, and other areas, said Fuad Najafli, the Authorized Representative of the President in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, at a special meeting dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev’s Washington visit held at the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fuad Najafli stated that construction of the Horadiz-Agbend railway line, initiated by President Ilham Aliyev in February 2021, is nearing completion. The foundation stone for the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu railway line was recently laid, emphasizing President Aliyev’s extensive goals for the international transit project. The rapid pace of work in Nakhchivan includes completed technical and economic feasibility studies, with design and construction underway. These developments are integral to preparing Nakhchivan as a transport corridor and logistics center. The opening of the Zangezur corridor is expected to end Nakhchivan’s historical isolation, positioning it as a leading economic force in the region. The establishment of new infrastructure will enhance trade, tourism, and the export potential of local production, accelerating Nakhchivan’s economic development.
The Authorized Representative highlighted that the Zangezur corridor will enhance Azerbaijan’s economic, political, and geostrategic power, contributing to regional peace and cooperation. Alongside the Zangezur and Nakhchivan issues, Azerbaijan’s development agenda includes digital governance, social welfare, employment, and ecological safety. Nakhchivan residents anticipate the lifting of the blockade and the establishment of uninterrupted travel by road with the main part of Azerbaijan. Entrepreneurs are already considering business projects along the corridor, and state bodies in Nakhchivan will intensify activities in line with presidential instructions. The Zangezur corridor symbolizes Azerbaijan’s unity and strength, marking a new era for the country and ending Nakhchivan’s historic isolation.
