Protection of Clean Water Resources Emerges as Global Challenge

Baku: "One of the main issues facing the world is the protection of clean water resources. As a result of climate change, clean water resources are facing serious threats, and this has now become one of the world's main challenges," Secretary General of the Union of Architects and Engineers of the Turkic World, Ilyas Demirci, said during his speech at the event titled 'Development of Azerbaijan's First National Sustainability Standard: Sustainable Practices Standard (SPS)' organized within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Demirci highlighted that the effects of global climate change are already being felt all over the world. He pointed out that issues such as forest fires, floods, droughts, erosion, and environmental disasters have become a shared responsibility globally. Demirci emphasized the need for stronger decisions to protect cities, natural resources, and living spaces.

Demirci noted the importance of developing long-term policies for the protection of clean water resources. He cited scientific research indicating that climate change, population growth, and irresponsible consumption are increasing the pressure on clean water resources. The depletion of groundwater, drying up of lakes, and pollution of water basins present serious risks for the future.

The Secretary General stressed that water, forests, and the environment are the common wealth of all people. He urged for the protection of these resources, their efficient use, and their preservation for future generations.

Demirci also underscored the strategic importance of forests for the sustainability of life, stating that forests are essential for clean air, climate balance, and biodiversity. However, increasing forest fires and environmental pollution are threatening this vital heritage.

Additionally, Demirci called for an increase in renewable energy sources, the development of ecological technologies, and the proper management of the water-energy nexus as crucial steps towards sustainable development.
