Rafael Camara to Join Haas F1 Team in 2027

Accra:Formula 2 leader and Ferrari junior Rafael Camara has signed a multi-year contract with the Haas F1 Team, marking his promotion to Formula 1 for the 2027 season. The 21-year-old Brazilian driver has been with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy since 2022 and has rapidly progressed through the ranks of single-seater racing.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Camara made a significant impact by winning the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship, which led to a seat in Formula 3 the subsequent year. He continued his success by securing the F3 title, matching Arvid Lindblad's record for the highest win percentage in the series' history. Currently, Camara leads the F2 drivers' standings with a seven-point lead over Red Bull's Nikola Tsolov, thanks to his three Feature Race victories and four additional podium finishes this season.

Camara showcased his skills in an F1 car during a Testing of Previous Car (TPC) session in August, where he drove Haas' 2025 model at Portimao. He expressed his excitement about joining Haas, highlighting the importance of this career step and expressing gratitude towards Gene Haas, Ayao Komatsu, the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, and his family for their support.

Gene Haas, the team owner, praised Camara's accomplishments in F3 and F2, noting the potential for an immediate impact at the F1 level. The announcement comes as Esteban Ocon confirms his departure from Haas, while fellow Ferrari-backed driver Ollie Bearman is expected to retain his position with the team.
