Ramiz Mehdiyev’s Involvement in Coup Plot Uncovered: Betrayal and Political Intrigue in Azerbaijan

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev’s administration has been shaken by revelations of betrayal and coup plotting involving former high-ranking officials. The recent arrest of Ramiz Mehdiyev, a significant figure within the Azerbaijani political landscape, highlights the extent of disloyalty among those once trusted by the state.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev has consistently shown respect for Azerbaijan’s political heritage and valued those who contributed to the country’s independence and development. Many officials from the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev’s team, such as Artur Rasizade, were honored with state awards and retired respectfully. However, not all have remained loyal.

Over the past 22 years, Azerbaijan has faced several attempts at destabilization, with officials like Abbas Abbasov and Ramiz Mehdiyev implicated in plots against the state. Abbasov, dismissed from his post in 2006, was involved in a 2013 coup attempt linked to the ‘Alliance of Billionaires’ in Russia. Meanwhile, Mehdiyev, once a key player in Heydar Aliyev’s administration, engaged in activities that harmed Azerbaijan’s interests.

Mehdiyev, who was dismissed from the Presidential Administration in 2019, continued his political machinations at ANAS. Allegations of bribery and intrigue during his tenure led to his resignation in 2022. Recently, Mehdiyev was arrested and charged with crimes including treason, highlighting his involvement in a network of betrayal.

The investigation has revealed Mehdiyev’s connections with several former officials, including Elmar Mammadyarov and Ziya Mammadov. These individuals, once part of Mehdiyev’s network, must now confront the consequences of their actions. Mehdiyev’s arrest sends a clear message: betrayal will not be tolerated.

The exposure of Mehdiyev’s plans coincides with economic sabotage by Adnan Ahmadzada, suggesting a coordinated effort to undermine Azerbaijan. While the investigation continues, authorities are determined to uncover all participants in these plots. Ramiz Mehdiyev’s fall from grace underscores the Azerbaijani state’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and political stability.
