Reconstruction Efforts Announced for Khojaly and Aghdara Resettlement Projects

Khankendi: Reconstruction works are set to begin in Khojaly and Aghdara as part of a resettlement initiative, according to Elchin Yusubov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Khankendi city, Aghdere, and Khojaly districts. Yusubov made this announcement during the opening ceremony of the 6th Summer Camp of Diaspora Youth in Khankendi, as reported by APA’s local correspondent.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Yusubov highlighted that approximately 15,000 people are currently residing in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdere and Khojaly districts. These residents include former internally displaced persons who have returned to their ancestral lands, as well as those employed in state and private institutions within the area.

He further detailed that the return of internally displaced persons to various villages in Aghdere and Khojaly has been facilitated, rejuvenating life in these regions. The resettlement process is being executed in stages, adhering to a detailed relocation plan. By 2025, repair and restoration works are planned for 18 settlements, comprising 11 villages in Khojaly district and 7 villages in Aghdere district, to accommodate the returning population. The relocation of around 6,400 former internally displaced persons to these villages has already been accomplished, and efforts are ongoing to prepare further relocation plans for additional settlements in the coming years.
