Baku: The remains of four soldiers who went missing during the First Karabakh War have been laid to rest in Baku. The soldiers, identified as Rafael Sultan Abbasov, Aliyar Farrukh Aliyev, Azer Ziredin Bayramov, and Ilham Imdad Mehdiyev, were finally handed over to their families after being missing for years.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a farewell ceremony was held in honor of the fallen soldiers. The ceremony marked a poignant moment for the families and the community, as they gathered to pay their last respects. After the ceremony, the soldiers were interred at the ‘Dada Gorgud’ Alley of Martyrs in the Surakhani district.
The soldiers had gone missing during the conflict in the early 1990s. Rafael Abbasov, Aliyar Aliyev, and Azer Bayramov were last seen in the city of Shusha on May 8, 1992, while Ilham Mehdiyev disappeared in the city of Khojaly on February 26, 1992. The return of their remains provides a sense of closure for their families and serves as a solemn reminder of the war’s impact.
