Remains of Nearly 700 Missing Persons Found, 165 Handed Over to Families


Baku: During excavation works in the liberated territories, the remains of 187 individuals, believed to be related to 23 mass graves, have been exhumed, Gazanfar Ahmadov, the Secretary of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, announced during the presentation of the “Assessment Report: Accounting for Missing Persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan” by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP). This event was organized by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Secretary noted that during construction works in the territories freed from Armenia’s occupation, the remains of up to 309 individuals were found. Additionally, in 23 cemeteries across various cities and regions of Azerbaijan, the remains of 192 individuals, buried without identification, have been exhumed. As of March 1, 2025, the remains of 688 missing persons have been discovered. The identities of 165 of them have been confirmed, and their remains have been handed over to their families.
