Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Civil Society Address Open Letter to U.S. Vice President JD Vance

Baku: Representatives of Azerbaijan's civil society have addressed an open letter to Vice President of the United States of America JD Vance.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the letter emphasizes Azerbaijan's commitment to religious freedom and interfaith dialogue, highlighting its historical role as a model of interfaith harmony. It underscores Azerbaijan's efforts in protecting diverse religious heritage, including the renovation of Christian churches and sacred sites in Vatican, and the expansion of Christian denominations within its borders.

The letter also touches upon the historical injustice faced by Western Azerbaijanis, who were forcibly uprooted from their ancestral lands in Armenia since 1987. It highlights the peaceful intent of these displaced individuals, stressing their desire to return to their roots without territorial ambitions, and calls for support in advocating for their right of return and the preservation of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia.

The representatives express support for the Joint Declaration signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington, which they believe offers hope for a future defined by trade, security, and mutual respect between Azerbaijan and Armenia. They appeal to Vice President Vance to support a comprehensive peace that includes the reconciliation and safe return of displaced Azerbaijanis to their original homes. The letter concludes with a call for leadership and moral clarity to ensure that the "Peace of 2025" becomes a reality for families in the Caucasus.
