Residential Complex Inauguration Brings New Homes to Sugovushan Village in Aghdara


Sugovushan: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the inauguration ceremony of a newly built residential complex in the village of Sugovushan, located in the Aghdara district. The event marked a significant milestone as keys to the newly constructed apartments were handed over to the villagers, signaling a new beginning for many families in the community.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the residential project, which encompasses five 5-story buildings, was developed on a 2.3-hectare area and includes 190 apartments. These units, varying from one to four-room configurations, are set to accommodate a total of 180 families, making it a pivotal development for the 591 people registered for relocation to the village. The president and the First Lady were briefed on the wide-ranging renovations that took place, including the refurbishment of a secondary school building accommodating 144 students. Additionally, two hydroelectric power stations, “Sugovushan-1” and “Sugovushan-2,” with a total capacity of 7.8 megawatts, have been commissioned to enhance the area’s infrastructure.



The inauguration ceremony also highlighted the completion of a recreation complex project sprawling over 6 hectares, featuring 16 cottages and a two-story hotel building, all of which underwent substantial refurbishment. President Aliyev took the opportunity to engage with residents, expressing his joy at seeing the first inhabitants move into the new homes and emphasizing the historical significance of Sugovushan’s liberation during the Second Karabakh War.



In a heartfelt speech, President Aliyev reflected on the sacrifices made by Azerbaijani servicemen during the conflict, honoring their memory and acknowledging the strategic importance of Sugovushan. The village’s liberation marked one of the first major successes in the war, and the president underscored the unwavering resolve and heroism of the Azerbaijani people and military forces that led to their victory.



The president also addressed the broader context of Azerbaijan’s strength and resilience, highlighting the country’s independent policy, economic development, and the formation of a powerful military force. He noted the significant international challenges faced during the conflict and the strategic fortifications built by the opposing forces, which the Azerbaijani military ultimately overcame.



Concluding his address, President Aliyev congratulated the residents on their return to Sugovushan, a dream long awaited. He expressed his hopes for their happy and prosperous lives in the newly established community, underscoring the enduring strength and determination of the Azerbaijani nation.
