TBILISI: The ruling party in Georgia is prioritizing the establishment of sustainable peace as a critical factor for the country’s future, particularly in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to Georgian historian and expert Edisher Gvenetadze.

According to Trend News Agency, Edisher Gvenetadze emphasized the ruling party’s commitment to peace as essential for maintaining the country’s recent impressive economic growth. He contrasted this focus with some opposition parties’ advocacy for European Union integration as a primary goal. “The ruling party is emphasizing the importance of ensuring sustainable peace as a prerequisite for continued economic growth, which has reached impressive double digits in recent months. At the same time, some opposition parties argue that integration with the European Union should be a priority,” stated Gvenetadze.

The expert further highlighted that this dual focus on peace and European integration poses no contradiction, as both are vital for Georgia
‘s development. “Both the preservation of peace and orientation towards Europe are important for Georgia. Therefore, I do not see any contradiction in these two directions. We should develop with European culture and values. However, this is possible only in peaceful and creative conditions,” he added.

Gvenetadze also noted the vibrant political competition among opposition parties as a sign of growing democratic values within the country. “This reflects pluralism in society and progress in the development of democracy,” he remarked, adding that Georgia remains committed to its regional obligations, which strengthens its role in collaborative projects, particularly with Azerbaijan and other regional stakeholders.

The parliamentary election in Georgia is scheduled for October 26, setting the stage for what appears to be a crucial electoral battle that could shape the country’s future trajectory.
