Russia Detains Individual Wanted by Azerbaijan on Terrorism Charges

Moscow: Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies have asked their Russian counterparts to extradite a person arrested in Russia and accused of conducting training in Azerbaijan for the purpose of terrorism and other crimes, APA's Moscow bureau reports, citing court materials. It was reported that the Azerbaijani side confirmed its intention to request the extradition of the accused in order to bring him to criminal responsibility for the crimes he committed.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the court materials noted that there are currently no obvious obstacles to the extradition of the accused to Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies. Russian law enforcement officers detained a person who was arrested in absentia at the request of Azerbaijan and is wanted in that country. He is accused of conducting training for terrorist purposes in the republic, forming a criminal organization, and creating armed formations or groups not recognized under Azerbaijani law.

A Moscow court, considering Azerbaijan's request, has ordered that the detained individual be placed in a pre-trial detention facility.
