Russia Resupplies Gas to Slovakia Through Turkish Stream

Moscow: Russia’s “Gazprom” has commenced gas supplies to Slovakia’s largest state energy supplier, SPP, via the Turkish Stream pipeline starting February 1. This development was confirmed by Vojtech Ferencz, the head of SPP, as reported by APA-Economic citing foreign media.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the gas supply from Russia is set to double starting in April under the terms of the contract with Gazprom Export, which remains valid until 2034. Vojtech Ferencz highlighted that there are no intentions to cancel the existing contract.

On January 1, Russia halted its gas transit through Ukrainian territory to Europe after Kyiv declined to extend the transit contract. Slovakia had been a recipient of gas through this now-suspended route.

In a related development, SOCAR began gas supplies to Slovakia’s SPP company on December 1, 2024. This supply is part of a short-term pilot agreement between SOCAR and SPP, with both companies aiming to establish a more extended energy partnership in the future.
