Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – Kyrgyz border guards at the Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint recently thwarted an attempt by a Russian citizen to smuggle a substantial amount of money out of the country. The state service’s press service released details of the incident.
According to 24.kg News Agency, a 41-year-old Russian national was intercepted at the checkpoint in the morning. During the border control process, officials discovered $69,800 in his possession.
The Border Service stated that the individual attempted to smuggle the currency across the border in violation of Kyrgyzstan’s customs laws, without declaring the amount. Subsequent to the discovery, the relevant documents were prepared, and both the foreign national and the undeclared money were handed over to competent authorities for further investigation.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by border authorities in preventing illegal financial transactions and enforcing customs regulations.
