BAKU: Russian gas will be transported to Iran along the Caspian Sea bed, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Trend reports.
According to him, a total of 300 million cubic meters of gas will be transported daily from Russia to Iran under a 30-year agreement signed between Iran’s National Gas Company and Russia’s Gazprom.
Owji added that Russia will pay the costs of infrastructure related to the transportation of Russian gas to Iran.
The Iranian minister noted that under the contract, an additional part of the gas supplied to Iran will be exported to other countries in the region. The annual financial value of this contract is $10-$12 billion.
To note, on June 26, the executive director of Iran’s National Gas Company, Majid Chegeni, and the executive director of Russia’s Gazprom, Alexei Miller, signed a document on the transportation of Russian gas to Iran.
Iran is considered the 2nd largest country in the world, with gas reserves of about 34 trillion cubic meters
. A total of 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.
