Baku: The first satellite constructed by Azerbaijani schoolchildren is poised to operate in orbit for roughly one year, collecting data in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain, as stated by Dunay Badirkhanov, Acting Chairman of the Board of Azercosmos, during an interview with AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Badirkhanov highlighted that the ‘Azerbaijan’s Victory’ satellite is designed to receive information from IoT sensors distributed globally, offering significant potential for both scientific data collection and educational purposes. The initiative underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering new projects in satellite technologies, space communications, and the utilization of satellite imagery at the Space Academy.

Badirkhanov also recalled previous opportunities where schoolchildren engaged directly with the International Space Station, communicating with astronauts on numerous occasions. Additionally, a scientific competition focused on the ‘Remote Observation of Earth’ is reaching its final stage.

He provided an update on Azerbaijan’s second satellite program, highlighting its timely progress. Badirkhanov emphasized the direct involvement of Azerbaijani specialists in the ‘Azersky-2A’ satellite preparation. The expertise gained from this project is anticipated to support the domestic assembly of future satellites, with the public being regularly updated on the project’s subsequent phases.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the local production of satellite components in Azerbaijan is advancing as planned, with new developments expected to be announced soon.
