Doha: A session dealing with the Coalition of builders promoting productive partnerships in the Global South, and the Pre-launch of the CAHF Housing Finance Yearbook 2025/2026, was held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), organized by the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF). The event discussed the formation of sustainable cooperation mechanisms among state institutions, private companies, financial institutions, investors, international organizations, and communities in the housing sector.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Ahmed Baba, Technical Assistant to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Family Homes Funds Limited in Nigeria, stated in his speech that UN-Habitat data for 2026 indicates the number of people living in inadequate housing conditions worldwide has reached approximately 3.4 billion, with more than 70% of this figure coming from Global South countries. He noted that while the problem was previously observed mainly in Eastern regions, recent crises in the Middle East have significantly worsened the situation.
Baba pointed out, based on experts' assessments, that more than 100 million people are currently facing housing problems. Other experts highlighted that the existing financing gap affects the entire value chain of the housing sector, emphasizing the necessity for a new financial architecture that prioritizes proper risk management and more precise financial mechanisms.
The event also facilitated an exchange of views on establishing long-term dialogue between international and regional institutions, finance and real estate networks, local governance structures, and development partners, as well as exploring ways to turn global platforms such as WUF13 into real and localized outcomes.
