Baku: The total volume of transactions conducted with payment cards in Azerbaijan reached AZN 49.4 billion in the first four months of 2026, marking an approximate 11% increase compared to the same period last year, President of the Azerbaijan Banks Association (ABA) Zakir Nuriyev stated during his speech at the International Finance and Banking Summit 2026.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Nuriyev highlighted that the volume of cashless transactions carried out with cards rose from AZN 29.9 billion to AZN 34.5 billion over the past year. Consequently, the share of cashless payments in total card transactions increased from 67.1% to 69.9%.
Nuriyev also pointed out that by the end of April 2026, the banking sector's deposit portfolio had surpassed AZN 37.8 billion, representing a 2.8% year-on-year growth. He emphasized that deposits of individuals exhibited stronger dynamics, climbing by 18.7% to reach AZN 17.3 billion. This trend, he noted, indicates sustained public confidence in the banking system and a strengthened resource base for banks.
