Baku: 'Although the number of Sikhs is small, they can make significant contributions," said Jas Singh, a representative of the Sikh community, at the international conference titled 'Racism and Violence Against Sikhs and Other National Minorities in India: The Reality on the Ground,' dedicated to the Indian government's repressive policies against ethnic minorities and organized by the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Singh emphasized the Sikh community's role despite being a minority in India. He noted that the Sikh population has historically not exceeded 2 percent of the country's total. With India's current population at 1.4 billion, the Sikh community in Punjab numbers around 30 million. Despite their small numbers, the Sikhs' visible identity and guiding principles have enabled them to contribute beyond their size.

The conference brought attention to the challenges faced by ethnic minorities in India, with a focus on the Sikh community's experiences. Participants highlighted the significant impact Sikhs have made in various sectors, underscoring the importance of acknowledging the contributions of minority groups in diverse societies.
