Baku: Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's leadership in implementing the new climate finance target agreed upon during its COP29 Presidency. In a video message sent to an international event dedicated to World Environment Day hosted by Azerbaijan, Stiell emphasized the importance of climate action as a central theme for this year's global observance.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Stiell underscored the essential nature of climate action for economic stability, national security, and the well-being of people worldwide. He called for building on the existing momentum to accelerate actions, strengthen communities, and protect lives by moving at the pace demanded by science.
Stiell emphasized the necessity of achieving the targets related to the new climate finance goal established during Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency. He praised Azerbaijan's ongoing leadership in this area and highlighted the importance of international cooperation. Stiell urged countries to work together to turn commitments into real projects, emphasizing the roadmap towards $1.3 trillion in financing aimed at helping developing countries transition to clean energy and achieve climate resilience.
