Smoke Reported on Freight Train Traveling from Azerbaijan to Georgia

Baku: Smoke was reported on a freight train and was promptly dealt with within a short period of time, Azerbaijan Railways told APA-Economics in response to an inquiry. Azerbaijan Railways stated that cases of smoke occurring on trains are seasonal in nature. 'Due to hot weather, such cases of smoke may occur on trains, and this is a natural occurrence. No damage was caused to the cargo on the trains as a result of the incident,' the statement noted.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a fire broke out on a train in Tovuz, as reported by APA's local bureau. The incident occurred in one of the wagons of a freight train traveling from Azerbaijan to Georgia in the area of Tovuz station. Preliminary information indicates that the fire occurred in the 36th wagon of the 42-wagon freight train due to smoldering in 70 tons of sulfur powder.

Fire engines and personnel of the Tovuz District State Fire Protection Unit of the State Fire Protection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished within a short period of time, and the affected wagon and other wagons were protected. Employees of other relevant agencies were also dispatched to the scene. An investigation into the incident is underway.
