Baku: Our key priority is to ensure that our customers across the region are supplied with energy in a sustainable and reliable manner, while also contributing to regional energy security, said SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf during his speech at the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf emphasized the expansion of Azerbaijan's gas supply network. This year, the supply geography has extended beyond Europe, Georgia, and Trkiye to include Syria, marking Azerbaijan's entry into the Syrian gas market. Najaf noted that while partners are keen to purchase more gas, they prioritize sustainable supply, recognizing Azerbaijani gas as a reliable energy source in the region.

Najaf pointed out the necessity of aligning production plans with SOCAR's program to meet regional demands. He highlighted discussions around expanding the Southern Gas Corridor to boost gas exports to Europe. However, the expansion project has seen no progress over the past five years, mainly due to the need for European partners to secure long-term gas purchase agreements and contribute financially to the project.

Further, Najaf stated that Azerbaijan plans to increase gas production in the coming decades, reinforcing its role as a dependable supplier. He acknowledged the anticipated growth in demand driven by global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical pressures. Azerbaijan is poised to address these challenges by bolstering its gas production and infrastructure.
