Baku: Francina Armengol Socias, Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, has commended the progress achieved in the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia following the agreement signed at the Washington meeting on August 8, 2025, as she spoke at a joint briefing with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the fruitful discussions between the two parties were highlighted by Francina Armengol Socias, who noted that her visit to Azerbaijan aims to strengthen bilateral relations, consolidate shared values, and foster high-level dialogue.
The Spanish Congress Speaker expressed hope that, if appropriate conditions are created, the process would culminate in a peace agreement ending the long-standing conflict in the Garabagh region and ushering in a new era of progress and cooperation. She further indicated a shared determination to deepen bilateral relations between Spain and Azerbaijan. The discussions focused on expanding existing agreements, such as memoranda of understanding in tourism and education.
Additionally, the Spanish Congress Speaker mentioned that both countries are working together to enhance interparliamentary ties, with an agreement to collaborate on the development of green energy.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that the active political dialogue recently observed between Azerbaijan and Spain provides an excellent opportunity for detailed discussions on the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations. She noted that relations between parliaments were discussed at the bilateral meeting, focusing on the importance of reciprocal visits of members of parliament and delegations.
Francina Armengol Socias remarked, 'This is my first visit to Azerbaijan. We must further strengthen our cooperation. MPs from both sides are doing significant work to enhance ties between the parliaments.'
